His power comes not from above,
but from those at his feet who uplift him.
He is but a symbol, a proxy,
sitting in for the Prince of Peace.
He is a keeper of the keys, a warden.
He is a rock, a steadfast pillar,
serving not God, but his people,
shouldering his cross through another age.
