Houston, we have our first Trillionaire!
I admit it. When I was in business, we did fundraisers for charities—a way to give back to the community and promote ourselves at the same time. Like the scales, we would judge which charity to support each year. Those charities would spend a lot of money on a campaign of “Pick me, I’m worthy!” Was that done out of advocacy? The cycle, it seems, is never-ending—the gap between the haves and the have-nots. What do the images invoke for you? I’m loving the comments and the conversation.
You stand in line for hours,
filling out form after form.
A tired face asks a few questions,
without looking up from the paper.
It doesn’t matter that your eyes are downcast
or busy counting the tiny holes in the ceiling tiles.
A few more minutes and “Bingo”, food stamps!
Down the hall, more lines, more eyes,
“Bingo”, a check in the mail.
Back in your car you put on Gucci shades.
The system doesn’t judge you,
after all, you’re a natural resource.
