Lady of Stature, Lady of Means.
This lady is well-to-do; you can see that from the grand estate in the background, how she is dressed, the ripe grapes on the vine. Everything in the picture speaks of wealth and status. In my poem, I focus on her solitude and my perception of loneliness. You might get a completely different perspective, which is perfectly good. There is no right way to view this image. Maybe you focus on the falcon, the grapes, her posture, the vastness of the estate, her expression, or lack of one. Will you share your thoughts on this card? I’ve been loving the discussion so far.
The lady in her garden strolls
among the flowers, sweet and fair.
In the tower a brass bell tolls.
There is sorrow in the air.
Her mansion home is dreary today,
the glint of gold and crystal is shaded.
She’s dressed in black, and she may,
shed a tear for the love she mated.
A falcon rests upon her wrist,
waiting for some sport.
Her game of power took a fateful twist.
She really wasn’t the selfish sort.
She only put too much stock in things,
thinking only of her comfort.
She neglected the joy that love brings;
while she listened to the annual report.
