Sometimes the past has tied us up — failures, successes, could-haves, should-haves — that we don’t see a new opportunity when it’s handed on a silver platter. The crush where we are kicking ourselves for not getting their number. We replay the mind tapes because hindsight is 20/20. Let my poem work its magic and see if you see something new in this card. Young man, your future is passing you by,
how can you sit there so smug?
Holding onto past conquests,
as though they meant anything.
Exploiting those who honestly loved,
while placing shiny trophies upon a dusty mantle.
Young man, you’re missing the real experience!
It’s love, pure and honest,
that you’re being offered.
Sit there!
Ignore it!
You can’t even see it!
The past has snared your attention.
