Slow Down-Children At Play!
How many of us grew up semi-poor but never knew it? You can focus only on the one aspect of the boy and girl sharing a tender moment exchanging the flowers under the shield of family protection. And that’s very sweet, but if you look closer there is more going on behind the scenes. The man in the background is not a parental figure but a guardian, policeman-like figure representing safety under the rule of law. Society has taken over the stewardship of the children, like schools being responsible now for teaching life lessons like the “birds and bees”. There are signs that the buildings need repair and the weeds are growing in the cracks of the sidewalks. Clearly the children have a good life but without the parents there, too busy with responsibilities of work, we are not fully able to ensure every aspect of the child’s development. Although the image seems medieval, the similarities of modern life are clear. What do you think?

What a wonderful state is youth,
freely giving, freely taking.
The love of a young heart,
shielded by a loving nest,
supported and upheld by watchful eyes.
Nothing to lose,
and everything to gain.
