So Many Choices, Too Few Lifetimes.
There are seven cups on display for the shadowed figure. Each cup is filled with a temptation. So we will start on the bottom row on the left first with a cup filled with grand estates (property), the next is filled with jewels and riches (wealth), the next is a skull with a wreath of a hero (fame), the final cup on the front row is filled with a red dragon (revenge). On the top row left we have a gorgeous face (beauty) on the far right we have a snake (wisdom) and finally in the middle we have a figure who is hidden, covered from sight (unknown). My poem pretty well describes what the images mean. So enjoy and I would love any comments you care to share.
And the serpent said, “eat the fruit”.
Then the devil said, “cast thyself down,
and the hands of angels shall bear thee up”.
There are seven great temptations,
to stir the hearts of man.
These are the tools of the Master of Mischief,
within the hidden doors of the mind.
In the first cup we see beauty,
the downfall of Narcissus.
The serpent? The folly of wisdom,
Can we ever know enough?
We see an estate upon a pinnacle,
to look down upon our kind.
Riches galore, who could want more,
or when is there ever enough?
Or the wreath of the victor,
a dead hero on the pages of history books.
Now we see the demon of revenge,
assailing our enemies with our broken pride.
Now finally the greatest tempter of all;
take a chance at the grab bag.
Like Pandora’s box, it’s the strongest of all,
always a surprise, the unknown.
