Life isn’t always where you expect it.
We see a fallen knight laid to rest in his crypt. Above him are three swords on display, representing his physical, emotional, and mental nature, now lifeless and on display like markers on his grave. Below him is a lone sword representing his spirit, to journey with him like the boats buried in the tombs of the pharaohs to guide them on their journey to the underworld. All pretty bleak and sad, right? However, in the left-hand corner of the tomb is a stained-glass window with light shining through it, a mural of hope that the spirit lives on. This brings balance to the trinity of swords on one wall, depicting the knight’s achievements or honors in life, and the window, which brings a message of life in the trinity of the people in the colorful mural. My poem also depicts this as a dream state, which is another way of interpreting the images. As always, I welcome your comments and impressions.
What is a man?
Is he flesh and blood?
No, he is much more than his body.
It is only a shell that houses
the heart, mind, and soul.
And when the body rests,
the dreamer is set free,
reaching all depths and heights
of his internal, eternal being.
In a dream, a hard man can cry,
a slow man can astound,
a lonely man can know love.
For in a dream, we are free.
