A Nightmare Is Only Telling You To Forgive Yourself.

As a past life reader who has done thousands of readings and led hundreds of people in my regression seminars, this card has a special meaning for me. Remember in the Four of Swords where I pointed out the stained glass window is where the real story was being told? Well, this one has that same hidden message. Our figure is someone who has awakened from a dream; it’s not important whether the dream is a nightmare or a sudden flash of realization. Most diviners focus on the quilt with the blooming red roses, which represent life (red) blooming (awareness unfolding), and on the various astrology signs checkered on the quilt (I’ve inserted the Waite-Smith design for comparison), which I think again points to the multiple birth signs of the dreamer. Now I draw your attention to the symbols carved in the bed frame where the story of what the dreamer has been gifted in this vision. The most prominent of the scenes is one of a person impaling another with a sword. Certainly a karmic remembrance from a past incarnation. However, there’s no hint as to whether they are being stabbed or are the one who is wielding the saber. In this karmic cycle of victim and aggressor, forgiveness is an equal matter to resolve. In the card I created, I like the additional symbols of the two dragons facing each other, the tree of generations bearing fruit in multiple seasons (the genetic line), and finally the knight standing over the victim, perhaps seeking forgiveness. I have a deck with the divinations printed on them (which I discourage). It titles this card “Anxiety”—fear, anxiety, terror, negativity, deep unhappiness… and so it goes, seeing just awful crap in this card, yeech! I see hope and awareness and healing that comes from not repeating your mistakes and being closer to fulfilling the hardest commandment of all, “go and sin no more.” I hope you like my poem; it’s one of my favorites, of course, so it’s a given I ask for your feedback.

Senseless fears,
unwanted dreams,
from the mind’s depths buried deep.
Feelings powerful,
thrusts in the night,
past crimson flows again.
Wounds unhealed,
violence smothers breath.
I awake, sweating, panting!
A familiar scene plays out again;
the actions of another age,
caught within the web of time.
